Responsible Endowments Coalition Vote and Engage list

Published by MorganSimon on 03/09/09

0 proposals, viewed 80 times

This list was created by the Responsible Endowments Coalition as a call to action--asking the 70 plus schools in our network to note only vote on this focus list, but also collectively write letters and consider cofiling in the future. We are proud to say that two have been filed by REC member schools--Bard College and McDonalds and Loyola University and Chevron. For more information about REC, please see www.endowmentethics.org, or contact us at 415.728.4893 or info@endowmentethics.org.

'Trojan Horse' Proposals by Steve Milloy's Free Enterprise Action Fund

Published by jmhumphreys on 02/22/09

20 proposals, 1 comment, viewed 195 times

Steve Milloy is a critic of the corporate social responsibility movement and environmental regulation generally, and through his Free Enterprise Action Fund, $6.5m in AUM, he files shareholder resolutions that ask why companies have, e.g., agreed to participate in industry climate change partnerships. Because the resolutions often sound a bit like resolutions advanced by environmentalists (e.g., "Report on Global Warming Remediation"), they usually get support from a few unwitting SRI funds, as this focus list shows. Ironically, they don't get support from mainstream mutual funds, which as a matter of policy oppose "social proposals" anyway. I've included the fund's statements in support of each resolution, which can be found by going to http://www.freeenterpriseactionfund.com/release041408.htm.

Proposals Sponsored by PETA

Published by MattPrescott on 01/30/09

PETA files more resolutions than any other NGO. The most common type of resolution we have sponsored in the last several years promotes the use of "Controlled Atmosphere Killing" as a less cruel and more profitable method of turkey and chicken slaughter. (See "The Case for Controlled-Atmosphere Killing" on PETA's website: http://www.peta.org/cak/) These resolutions (noted below with "CAK") typically ask for a report to be issued on the economic feasibility of phasing in controlled-atmosphere killing in the company's own operations or as a requirement for suppliers. Resolutions on animal welfare or animal testing typically ask for a report on what the company is doing to reduce dependence on animals and improve treatment of animals in the company's operations.
